Holiday Shop on a Girlfriends’ Getaway — My Special Airfares Make It Happen!

Oh, yes! The time is perfect for Christmas shopping and I wanted to find a getaway airfare that would make it work for you and your girlfriends. Get just 6 of your friends together and shop New York, Kansas City or Minneapolis – three outstanding getaway/shopping destinations. Pick one, then check out the special blog airfares (arranged just for this blog’s readers) that can make your getaway happen.

Kansas City. I just can’t say enough about that city, especially Country Club Plaza. Elegant, upscale, interesting, unique and very fun. Hotels and restaurants are also plentiful in this 15-block shopping village – created in grand Spanish architecture with a generous sprinkling of European art. (Read all my KC posts to get an idea of how great that city is!) How about $148 roundtrip? Go for the day or stay longer. Check out my posts on my two recent Kansas City getaways.

New York. Well, the sky’s the limit on shopping opportunities there. Fifth Avenue? The Garment District? Canal Street on the Lower East Side? TriBeCa or SoHo or Greenwich Village? What kind of shopping do you want to do? Saks Fifth Avenue? Bergdorf Goodman? Henri Bendel? Or are you more into great bargains on knock-off designer purses? Or just discounted real designer goods? Looking for small, one-of-a-kind gifts? SoHo and the Village are great bets. Read my five posts on Lower Manhattan for some shopping ideas. For Tish’s readers, the fare is just $163.63 roundtrip for one-day or multiple day trips. Fly into La Guardia or Newark – you can get into the city easily from either airport. Or just consider Newark and hit the Secaucus outlets

Minneapolis. Shop Minneapolis for $92.09 roundtrip!! Mall of America, Ikea, 50th & France, Nicollet Mall and Grand Avenue in St. Paul. Plenty of hotels surrounding Mall of America – and Ikea is right across the street. Want to go downtown for the upscale stores on Nicollet Mall? Take the very easy to use light rail system. You can cab it from the MOA area to St. Paul’s Grand Avenue or the boutiques at 50th and France — where Minneapolis and Edina meet. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed and you’ll find those special gifts that you’d never find in a traditional mall.

TIP:  How fun would it be to have limo service to and from the airport — for less than a standard shuttle? Check out the offer from Carey Limousine Service.

Just returned from an evening on the Plaza. We stayed at the beautitiful Intercontinental, f/ka/ Fairmont, f/k/a Ritz, fka Alameda. It is in the most perfect location right on edge of Brush Creek and the Plaza. Most importantly be sure and book a concierge level room, where in the beautiful lounge overlooking the Plaza you can visit, read, play cards, and enjoy brekafast, light lunch, heavy hor d’oerves and complementary drinks, evening liquers and sweets. Plus the services of the concierge, all for only about $50 more per room. Perfect spot for girlfriends. If you visit during the holiday season, you will have the most spectacular views of the holiday lights decorating the Plaza. It was the cover article of National Georgraphic Traveler a number of years ago and is superb.

Growing up in KC area, the Plaza was “the place” to have those wonderful girlfriends lunches. Mother and her two girlfriends, imparted all their wisdom at the 3 hour lunches where the tips was as much as the meal. As we had daughters they played under the table and now they are off in their own careers. Hopefully the advice we learned from our moms, on how to handle lifeand husbands keeps us sane in our busy life today and helps us pas sit on to our equallya s busy daughters.
