Girls Night Out in SoHo, New York City

Five of us from Midwest Airlines flew into New York on March 12 to attend Shecky’s Girls Night Out — a huge shopping party in SoHo at HoustonThe Puck Building and Lafayette in the Puck Building. This building is a landmark with its German-inspired neo-Romanesque architecture and is named for the magazine headquarters of “Puck,” a satirical publication of years gone by.

We had talked about the party for weeks, bought our tickets well in advance and were excited to actually be at the sold-out event.Main doorway to the Puck Building

Girls Night Out attracts about 2,000 women each of the 5 nights it runs in New York. We saw about 60-70 vendors and up-and-coming designers — selling purses, handmade jewelry, scarves, unique clothing, cosmetics and beauty products and so much more. Revlon had their people giving free makeovers. Oasis Salon had massage therapists giving free massages. A number of vodka, wine and other liquor manufacturers offered free cocktails throughout the evening. Anyone for a Mangotini? We had our pick of alcoholic refreshments.

What Did I Buy? While a lot of things interested me, I held back and only purchased two things. A pair of sterling silver earrings that were uniquely designed and a young designer’s silk organza blouse with beautiful pearl buttons on the front and cuffs. The earrings were $18 and well worth it. The blouse was about $45 and also worth it. I’d never find another one quite like it and I love it. It’s one of those things you notice, look at, think about and then walk on to the next table. But then go back to look at one more time … and buy!

Girls Night Out in Other Cities. Shecky’s offers these shopping parties in a number of cities served by Midwest Airlines. I will give you a schedule so that if you’re interested in taking a girl’s getaway to one of the cities, you might want to include this event on your itinerary.
