Pet Fashion Week in New York. Be There.

Girlfriends: Take your dogs to NYC and stroll 5th Avenue. NYC has become very pet friendly. Events for you and your pet, hotels and restaurants that offer Fido-Friendly accommodations, and an airline that lets your pet travel with you have all made it easier to enjoy a visit to New York City with your pooch.grey-dog-graphic.jpg
Here’s an excerpt from an e-mail I got today from Modern Dog magazine detailing the highlights of New York’s Pet Fashion Week.

Rover Takes Manhattan
Looking for an excuse to visit the Big Apple this August? Well look no further.

Fashion goes to the dogs with New York Pet Fashion Week. Combining les chiens and chic, Pet Fashion Week features avant-garde pet styling, cutting-edge canine fashion shows, kick-off party, and an industry symposium and trade show. We’re a sponsor of the Luxury Pet Pavilion on the fourth floor, complete with a chill out lounge (catering staff, drinks, even a pianist!), so stop by and say “hi.” It’s an event not to be missed. After all, hanging right next to your “I ? NY” t-shirt are your “I ? dogs” and “I ? fashion” tees, right? (August 18-19, industry only)

Or, head over the bridge to Jersey and check out L’Oreal Paris’ 4th annual Because Your Dog Is Worth It Too Day, featuring a dog beauty contest, boardwalk games, dog-opoly, and more, in benefit of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. (August 18)

Play at Washington Square Park. Two dog runs—one for smaller dogs, one for larger—make this Greenwich Village park a veritable dog haven. W. 4th St. and Waverly Pl.

Stay at the W New York Union Square. Revel in the minimalist luxury and trademark nouveau-Hollywood style of the W hotel brand at this member of the dog-welcoming chain, located just across the street from an off-leash park.

Pet-Friendly Hotels and Restaurants
Visit TripsWithPets.com to find most everything you’d want to know about traveling with your pet — including listings of pet-friendly hotels and restaurants in New York (and other cities). Check out another list of pet-friendly hotels at nycvisit.com. I’ve checked Quikbook and discovered that at least 25 of those pet-friendly hotels are listed on Quikbook.com.

Pet-Friendly Airline
Midwest Airlines offers two options for you and your dog: 1) In cabin below the seat if your dog is small enough, or 2) below the cabin in a climate-controlled, pressurized pet area that is safely away from the luggage. And if you and your dog are frequent travelers, check into the Premier Pet Program that also offers two options: 1) Pay for your pet’s travel with Midwest Miles, or 2) Let your pet earn free travel by accruing 3 paid trips. Check it out — it’s worth it if you like to take your dog with you.

    Hi Tish,

I read a comment you left on another site regards migrating your blog to Joomla, I just wondered if you were pursuing this idea, or have selected a different platform.

I ask as I too am looking for flexible alternatives to WP….
